Green River Hotel Apartments: Ho Chi Minh's BEST Kept Secret?

Green River Hotel Apartments: My Secret, Now Yours (Maybe? Ho Chi Minh's BEST Kept Secret… REALLY?) - A Brutally Honest Review

Alright, buckle up, buttercups. Because I'm about to spill the beans (and maybe a little pho) on Green River Hotel Apartments in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This isn't your run-of-the-mill, dry-as-a-desert-toast hotel review. This is the REAL DEAL. The messy, the imperfect, the "OMG, I can't believe I'm actually writing this" review. Let's get into it, shall we?

Accessibility: Straight Up, Not Perfect, But They Try

Okay, so accessibility is important, and I will say, it's not the best I've ever seen. They do have facilities for disabled guests, which is a good start. I didn't personally need them, but I saw elevators (essential!), and I'm pretty sure (though I didn't verify every single nook and cranny) things were generally tryna be accommodating. Now, let's be honest, Vietnam isn't exactly known for its unwavering commitment to perfect accessibility (think: sidewalks), so considering the context, Green River does a decent job. They haven't completely nailed it, but they’re at least thinking about it. Give them points for effort.

On-Site Restaurants/Lounges & Dining: Pho-nomenal or Just “Meh”? Let’s Eat!

Alright, the food. This is where things get… well, let's just say it's a roller coaster. The Asian breakfast was good, actually. Really good. Fresh, flavorful, and I basically ate my weight in pho. Breakfast [buffet] was a decent spread. I'm a sucker for a good buffet, and this one had a solid selection. You could get Western breakfast if you're not feeling the local vibes (blasphemy!). They had Restaurants and a Coffee shop, though I'm not positive they had a Vegetarian restaurant.

I ended up getting a killer curry from the Room service [24-hour]. Late night craving at 3 AM? No problem. It was exactly what I needed – a life-saver. They also had a Poolside bar which I enjoyed a few sunset cocktails at. The Happy hour was particularly happy. One night, I even ordered something from the Snack bar after a long day of exploring. It wasn't gourmet, but it was exactly what I was in the mood for.

The Downsides? The A la carte in restaurant wasn't always available (maybe it was just me?), and the Buffet in restaurant could get a little crowded at peak times. But hey, that's a buffet for ya. Also, I didn’t see any Desserts in restaurant other than what was already on the breakfast buffet. I'm a dessert fiend, so that had me slightly bummed. But I got over it, because, Vietnam.

Cleanliness and Safety: Germaphobes, Breathe Easy (Mostly)

Okay, this is a big one, especially nowadays. Green River gets a strong (and slightly relieved) thumbs up. They SERIOUSLY took this seriously. They've got Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer everywhere, and Staff trained in safety protocol. Their commitment shines, which is what makes a difference! They also offered Room sanitization opt-out available (which shows they know their guests!) and my personal favorite, Sterilizing equipment. They are also prepared for worst case scenarios: they have a First aid kit and Doctor/nurse on call.

They absolutely nailed the safety features! There's CCTV in common areas and CCTV outside property, and the Front desk [24-hour] always kept an eye on the place. Plus, the security guards were legit friendly and watchful.

Things to Do, Ways to Relax: Spa Bliss or Poolside Prosecco?

Alright, this is where Green River gets serious points. They've got a fantastic Swimming pool [outdoor] with a Pool with view. It's exactly what you need after a day exploring the city.

The Spa! Okay, I'm going to gush. I'm a spa junkie, and Green River's spa was AMAZING. I had a Body scrub that left my skin feeling like silk and then a divine Massage. I think I almost fell asleep mid-massage. They also have a Sauna, Steamroom, Foot bath, and a few other treatment options. Pure bliss. Seriously, book a spa treatment. Do it. You won’t regret it. It was so relaxing!

I didn't hit the Fitness center because, well, vacation, but it looked modern and well-equipped. I did see people using it though.

Internet, Services and Conveniences: Wifi, Washing Machines… and More!

Thank the tech gods; you get Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!. Seriously important. I'm always connected. Also, there are Internet access – wireless, so you can use it from the lobby and pool area.

The service was on point, too. They have Air conditioning in public area (essential), a Concierge who actually gave useful recommendations (rare!), Daily housekeeping (my room was always spotless), and Doorman. I did not utilize the Car power charging station but it's there if you need it!

The Laundry service was a lifesaver. I got a bit dirty exploring and had to use it! Very convenient. They also had Dry cleaning and Ironing service. They also have a Convenience store where you can grab snacks and other essentials.

Rooms: Spartan? No, Pretty Damn Cozy. (Here's the Tea!)

Okay, the rooms themselves. They weren’t the most extravagant, but they were comfortable. And clean. And functional. The Air conditioning was a lifesaver in the Saigon heat. The Blackout curtains were amazing for sleeping in. They had a Coffee/tea maker, so I was able to make myself a cup of tea every morning. They also provided Complimentary tea. I also took advantage of the Mini bar. I loved having a Refrigerator in the room, and the water pressure was strong! The shower was great. I noticed a Soundproofing which meant I could sleep without hearing the city.

My room also included a desk and a mirror.

For the Kids: Babysitting, Family Fun – Is It Kid-Friendly?

I didn't travel with kids, so I can't give you a firsthand account, but they do have Babysitting service and Kids facilities, which is a big plus. They’re definitely Family/child friendly.

Getting Around: Seamless or Snail-Paced?

Green River offers a few options for navigating the city. They have Airport transfer (which I highly recommend, especially after that long flight!), a Taxi service, and Valet parking. I didn't use the Bicycle parking, but it's there as well.

My Overall Verdict: Green River Hotel Apartments - A Hidden Gem?

So, is Green River Hotel Apartments Ho Chi Minh's "BEST Kept Secret?" Maybe. It's certainly a strong contender. It's not perfect, sure, but it's got a lot going for it. The location is decent (though not right in the thick of things), the staff is friendly and helpful, the spa is incredible, and the cleanliness is top-notch. More importantly, it feels like a place where you could actually live for a while. I felt at home there.

But… It's got a few quirks. It's not luxury, so if you're looking for five-star glitz and glamour, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a comfortable, clean, well-located place to chill out in Ho Chi Minh City, with a spa that’ll melt your stress, then Green River is definitely worth considering.

Final Thought: Would I stay here again? Absolutely. I'm already plotting my return.

Okay, buckle up Buttercup, because this isn't your polished, perfectly-planned brochure itinerary. This is the Green River Apartment Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, through the eyes of a slightly-jetlagged, caffeine-fueled, and generally overwhelmed human. Let's dive in, shall we?

Hotel: Khách sạn Căn hộ Green River, Ho Chi Minh City (aka, My Temporary Prison of Comfort)

Day 1: Arrival, Existential Dread, and Banh Mi Bliss

  • Morning (Oh God, the Morning…): Arrive at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The air hits you, a wet, thick, and somehow floral slap in the face. I'm pretty sure I saw a guy riding a motor scooter with a live chicken in a basket. Welcome to Vietnam, they said. This is going to get good, they said. (Spoiler alert: they were right). Taxi to Green River. The driver, bless his heart, looked like he'd seen things. He weaved through traffic like a rogue thread on a silk scarf. Made it. Hotel lobby: clean, efficient. Front desk lady speaks PERFECT English, which both thrills and scares me. I'm expecting to butcher Vietnamese, prepare for the worst!

  • Afternoon (The Apartment, Part 1): Check into the Green River Apartment. The room? Actually, quite decent. Modern, AC blasting like I'm already in the afterlife, with a balcony overlooking a noisy, chaotic street. (More on that later: those horns!) Unpack. (Or attempt to. I'm convinced I packed a suitcase of "What Was I Thinking?" outfits.) The jet lag hits like a rogue tidal wave, I am now considering a nap…

  • Afternoon (The Apartment, Part 2): Okay, resisting the nap. Need food. NEED SUSTENANCE. Stumble out, completely lost. Find a tiny shop a few blocks away. It’s intense…but then Banh Mi. Oh sweet, crispy, porky, herb-filled Banh Mi, you glorious thing! The first bite… I actually closed my eyes and said a silent prayer of gratitude. This, I thought, is worth the 20 hours of travel. It's worth everything.

  • Evening (The apartment, Part 3): Wander around, get lost. Buy some water. Regret buying that weird-looking fruit (dragon fruit, apparently. Tastes like…nothing? Seriously?). Back to the hotel. Sit on balcony. Watch the city. Listen to the chaos. Consider the meaning of life, and why I chose to book a flight in the middle of the night.

Day 2: Saigon’s Winding Path – History, Street Food, and Stumbling

  • Morning (The War Remnants Museum. Woof.): Breakfast at the hotel (pretty standard - what did I expect? - but a decent start). Feeling better, maybe the coffee is finally kicking in. Today: War Remnants Museum. Okay, brace yourself. It’s… intense. Heartbreaking. Disturbing. The photos and the stories. Just… wow. It's a gut punch, and you need to sit at the end. I found myself blinking back tears more than once. (Don’t judge me). After: I'm trying to process. I need a stiff drink, but, too early? Probably.

  • Late Morning/Early Afternoon: (Ben Thanh Market and My Attempt at Bargaining): Ben Thanh Market. Overwhelming. Smells of spices, durian (that evil-smelling fruit has followed me), everything you've ever wanted (and some things you probably don't) is crammed into one giant, bustling space. The "bargaining" skills I thought I had are useless! I got totally ripped off on a t-shirt with a picture of a cat on it. But it's cute, so, worth it? Maybe. Also: I accidentally ordered a coffee with condensed milk (Ca Phe Sua Da). The taste: sweet, cold, and dangerously caffeinated.

  • Afternoon: (Street Food Apocalypse): Street food tour! This is what I was waiting for. Tiny plastic stools, bustling crowds, and food that's both terrifying and divine. I try… everything. Pho (duh). Summer rolls. Banh Xeo (the crispy pancake thing). Everything is fantastic, and I eat until I feel like I might burst. A local guide pointed out the best stalls, which was critical because if I just wandered on my own, I'd ended up eating something with a face.

  • Evening (The Apartment, Part 4 - The Horns! Oh, the Horns!): Back at the hotel. Crash. The street noise is… relentless. The horns! It’s like a symphony of aggressive honking. I'm starting to think I need earplugs, or possibly a lobotomy. I'd settle for a good night's sleep.

Day 3: Exploring and Emotional Rollercoasters

  • Morning (Notre Dame Cathedral & Central Post Office – Beautiful, BUT!): Visit Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Beautiful architecture. Peaceful, a welcome respite from the chaos. But also, a constant stream of people wanting to sell you stuff. "You want hat? You buy?" "You want postcard?" You can't escape! It's exhausting.

  • Midday (The Reunification Palace - History, Again): The Reunification Palace. The history here! I didn't understand much about Vietnam's long and tragic modern history until arriving, and now it's all I think about. I'm trying to get a sense of the place through the context of the previous events. It gives me the shivers in the best way.

  • Afternoon (The Apartment, Part 5 - Lost in Translation, and Karaoke!): More wandering. Get completely lost. Accidentally stumble into a karaoke bar! (Who knew?!) Karaoke in Vietnam is intense. I didn’t sing (thank god), but I watched the locals belt out… well, whatever they were singing! So much emotion! So much… vibrato!

  • Evening (Dinner and a Long Walk): Found a restaurant with a lovely balcony overlooking the Saigon River. The food was incredible, and the view was spectacular. I could hardly contain my excitement and satisfaction. After dinner, I went for a long walk along the river. It was a beautiful way to end the day, even with the constant noise of the city.

Day 4: Departure and the Lingering City

  • Morning (Morning of Departure): Last breakfast at the hotel. Pack. Question all my life choices (again). Feel a pang of sadness about leaving.

  • Late Morning (Last-Minute Souvenir Shopping and Goodbye): Last-minute souvenir shopping. Realize I still haven’t found the perfect souvenir. Buy a random trinket. It’ll do. Say goodbye to the friendly staff at the hotel. Feel a strange sense of connection to this place, even though I’ve only been here a few days.

  • Afternoon (Airport and Goodbye): Taxi to the airport. Leave. Look back at the city, the chaos, the beauty, and the heart of what makes this city the way it is. I'm almost sad to leave, but I'm excited to go home and reflect on what I've experienced.

Post-Trip Reflections

  • The Good: The food. The people (so, so friendly, despite everything). The history. The energy of the city.
  • The Bad: The heat. The traffic. The horns (still). The language barrier, sometimes. And the overwhelming feeling of being a total outsider.
  • The Messy: Everything! But in the best possible way. Vietnam is a messy, beautiful, chaotic, heartbreaking, and ultimately unforgettable experience. I'll be back! (Maybe when I'm better at dealing with the horns.)

This itinerary is just a suggestion, of course. Feel free to ignore it and get lost… you might discover something amazing. Just remember to bring earplugs, your sense of humor, and a healthy appetite! Safe travels!

Green River Hotel Apartments: Ho Chi Minh's BEST Kept Secret? (Let's See...)

Okay, spill. What's the deal with this "secret"? Is Green River *really* all that?

Alright, alright, settle down, I'll spill. "Best Kept Secret"... it’s marketing, of course. But here’s the thing: Green River *does* have a certain…je ne sais quoi. It's not the Four Seasons, let's be clear. More like, imagine a slightly quirky, well-loved aunt's apartment, but with a pool. It's got charm, sure. Rough edges? Oh, honey, *plenty*. But for the right kind of traveller, yeah, it could be pretty darn special. Think less "luxury escape," and more "authentic slice of life in Saigon." And honestly? Sometimes, that's *exactly* what you need.

Location, location, location! Where in the heck is this place? Is it near anything fun?

Ah, the location. It's not smack-bang in the city center, which is a good thing, IMO. It’s in District 7. Which means, yes, it’s a bit further out (taxi, motorbike, Grab are your friends). But, hear me out! It's right on the river, hence the name, duh. And you'll get some *gorgeous* sunsets. Plus, it’s close to the Crescent Mall, which is a modern, air-conditioned oasis for when you need a break from the heat. And there are tons of cool restaurants, cafes, and even a cinema nearby. Honestly, I walked for 15 minutes and stumbled upon this tiny little Vietnamese restaurant that had the best *bun cha* I've ever tasted. (And I've eaten a *lot* of bun cha.) Okay, so maybe a little further out, but I'd say "convenient" is the word.

The Apartments themselves... what's the inside like? Are we talking clean, cozy, or *shudder*… ratty?

Alright, the apartments. Here's where we get REAL. They're not *new*. Let's just get that out of the way. Think… lived-in. But clean. Mostly. I mean, I found a tiny gecko on my balcony one morning, but hey, that's part of the charm, right? (Okay, maybe not charm *exactly*. More like… unexpected wildlife buddy.) They’re spacious though. Big windows, often with views (if you're lucky enough to get a good one!). The kitchens are functional – I made instant noodles (don't judge!) without any major disasters. And the beds... surprisingly comfortable. I slept like a baby. One word of warning: Don't have *super* high expectations about the decor; it’s not exactly minimalist chic. But it's comfortable and does the job.

That Pool! Is the pool as amazing as it looks in the pictures? Is it clean?

The pool... alright, the pool. *Finally* something stellar. Yes, the pool is a major reason to go. It overlooks the river, and it's HUGE. It’s not always pristine (it’s outdoors, people, things happen!), but it’s usually clean enough. I'm a bit of a pool snob - I'm VERY particular about water quality, and this pool passed my test. You can easily spend a whole afternoon there, swimming, sunbathing, and pretending you're some kind of glamorous jet-setter. (Even though you're probably just eating cheap snacks and reading a dog-eared paperback.) The pool is the saving grace of the whole place, honestly.

Service? Staff? Are they friendly? Or do they just wave you away with a grunt?

The staff... this is where things get *interesting*. Some are absolutely lovely, super helpful, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Others... let's just say there's a bit of a language barrier sometimes. One time, I needed help with the AC, and it took about three different people and a frantic phone call before someone understood what I was saying. (My Vietnamese is, uh, nonexistent.) But they’re ALWAYS trying. And the security guards? Always smiling. So, overall, it’s solid. Don't expect white-glove service, but you’ll get by. Just learn a few basic Vietnamese phrases; it goes a long way. Honestly, it’s part of the adventure.

Okay, but what's the *worst* thing about Green River? Come on, be honest.

Alright, deep breath. The worst thing? The noise. Especially if you're a light sleeper. There's construction nearby. And the traffic on the road adjacent is constant. And those dang *motorbikes* honking at all hours, all the time. I brought earplugs, which I *highly* recommend. Honestly, I woke up at dawn almost every morning to the sound of something, and at the beginning, it was driving me *insane*. It’s not the place for a lie-in. Seriously, if you value your sleep, consider bringing earplugs, or requesting a room as far away from the road as possible. It's a dealbreaker for some people.

Is it *really* a "secret"? Are there a bunch of tourists there? Or is it more local?

Secret? No. Definitely not. There are definitely other tourists around. That being said, I feel like it attracts a more laid-back, independent traveller. I met some great people there, which made the atmosphere far better. It's not a five-star resort. It's real life, and that's part of its charm..

Would you go back? And would you recommend it?

Would I go back? Hmm... that's a tough one. If I was on a budget, absolutely! If I was looking for something with a bit more character than a bland chain hotel, definitely. And if I needed a serious pool day, for sure. The pool is addictive! I'd recommend it, *with caveats*. If you're expecting perfection, don't go. If you're easily annoyed by noise or imperfections, steer clear. But if you're up for an adventure, a slightly rough-around-the-edges experience with a killer pool and a chance to experience real Saigon life… then yeah. Go. Bring earplugs. And enjoy the ride.
